The idea of writing a blog / journal for a theory class is quite new to me. I wouldn’t say that I’m a fan of having to write about the theory lessons each week, because I like to keep my thoughts to myself, since it can be hard for me to articulate them properly. But I’m curious about this approach and open to share my learnings and thoughts on the lessons and workshops. This theory class differs from the theory classes I had before, in a sense that it’s practical theory and not dry theory, where you must sit down and listen (my attention span isn’t the best). We are active participants of this class, not just partakers. I am curious as to how much knowledge I’ll keep from this class compared to other theory classes, so I’ll give it a go.
Interaction designers design the interactions between users and products. This is easily explained but it’s not that easy to simplify this field. For me, interaction design is more than just humans interacting with machines. Interaction can be found everywhere, whether it be the day-to-day life or on your phone.
I come from an IT background, which means I have some experience in the technical component of interaction design. As from my experience in the IT world, profit is the goal, which drew me away from the field. Also, I’m not the best programmer. I wanted to combine my interest in technology with my creative side, that’s why I’m here. I’m quite interested in the social aspect of interaction design and want to get out of my comfort zone to be more experimental and just really try out new methods and develop my skills. I’m not quite sure, where my design journey will lead me. I think, this is just something I will figure out along the way. This is just simply put. I could write an essay on the topic of why I am here.
